Ardshinbank participated in a visit organized at the invitation of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund for donors and supporters of the Spandaryan Canal reconstruction project to learn about the progress of the reconstruction works. During the visit, participants were briefed on the condition of the sections of the canal undergoing rehabilitation one year after the launch of the project, as well as the timeline for the next stages of construction.
The reconstruction of the Spandaryan Canal is one of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s flagship projects. In 2025, the project brought together thousands of donors from Armenia and the Diaspora through the “Homeland Forever” fundraising campaign. Recognizing the economic importance of restoring the canal, Ardshinbank also supported the project by donating AMD 10 million toward its reconstruction.
The project aims to restore irrigation access to agricultural land in six villages within the Sisian community. Upon completion of the reconstruction, approximately 2,800 hectares of land will have access to irrigation, while 730 families will become direct beneficiaries of the project.
The rehabilitation of the canal, up to 70% of which is damaged, is of great importance to Sisian’s agricultural potential. Reliable irrigation will enable more efficient use of agricultural land, support the development of agriculture, and facilitate long-term investment, while also strengthening water and food security.
“The reconstruction of the Spandaryan Canal is more than just the restoration of an irrigation system. It creates an opportunity to expand economic activity in Syunik Region and open up new prospects for local communities. Ardshinbank supported this project in 2025, recognizing the impact that the restoration of the canal can have on the development of agriculture and communities across the region,” said Artak Ananyan, Chairman of the Management Board of Ardshinbank.
According to Aramais Avetisyan, Executive Director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, the reconstruction of the first two sections of the canal is scheduled to be completed by mid-2027, after which irrigation water will reach the first villages.
The visit to the Spandaryan Canal also featured a symbolic ceremony, during which donors and partners left their signatures on a commemorative plaque intended for a future monument.
